A little history
Jerry Spencer founded Dead Cat Ranch more than 40 years ago. Over the years, the ranch expanded to 1,200 acres of beautiful East Texas wilderness that we are now proud to share with all of our guests.
Jerry routinely enjoyed the ranch with his wife, Becky, their daughter, Stacy, and the rest of their family and friends. This has always been a place to unplug and slow down, and that mission is the backbone of every guest’s experience at our ranch.
The Legend of Dead Cat Ranch
Our name is unique, and there are many theories as to how “Dead Cat Ranch” came to be. Here’s a theory from one of our previous guests:
“Dead Cat” is whispered on the wind. In the rolling hills through the beautiful countryside where pastel colors paint the sky, a sigh on the wind whispers dead cat. “Beware of the Dead Cat.” Those who know the story feel a chill down their spine. Those who don’t think it’s just an echo of a forgotten dream. What does it mean? In a time not too far gone, a young family moved to these rolling hills to find their place and plant roots. With stars in their eyes and hope in their hearts they built their home. One day while her family was working the land the youngest of the family, a girl named Harmony was playing...

In Memory of Jerry Spencer
Jerry John Spencer started building pieces of the Dead Cat Ranch property over 43 years ago, eventually blossoming into what is now 1,200-acre of pristine East Texas ranch land and wilderness. Jerry was a self-made man with quick wit, a life-long love of learning, and an undeniable brain for business. He served as a Captain in the Marine Corps and will always be remembered for his commitment to the community and his mentorship to so many. Out of all the places he had traveled and all the experiences that he had, his favorite place to be was at the ranch. Jerry’s love of Dead Cat Ranch is shared with his family and will be his legacy for generations to come.
